Mrs. Kiesgen (Jan)
Profile
Grades You Teach: 4-8 Band; K-2 Classroom Music
Years at Concordia: I was here 23 years and retired in 1993. I’ve returned on a part-time basis to re-energize the band program.
Favorite Concordia Memory: Working with the children and band parents to build the band program to the glory of God. Some of my greatest memories would be our Washington, D.C. trips and the educational values they instilled in all the children. I was so proud to show our Christian message to the entire country as we carried our cross down Constitution Avenue on national TV.
Why did you choose to become a music instructor? I love children and love teaching. My mother was a teacher and I was very blessed as a child and student to have had a wonderful teacher throughout my education. My music teachers in band, orchestra and choirs had the greatest influence as mentors.
Family: I was married for 49 ½ years to Carl Kiesgen, who passed away in 2007. We were blessed with three children (Luanne, David and Maryellen), who all attended Concordia. I now have 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren who are the joys of my life.
Why would you recommend Concordia to families? I believe in a strong Christian education and a curriculum that has a strong music department. We have dedicated teachers who are willing to go the extra mile for the children.
Outside Interests: I enjoyed golf before I had knee problems. I enjoy being with my friends. I love to travel and watch baseball, football and basketball. I also enjoy church choir.
“In 1999, we were the first grade school
band in the nation to receive an invitation
into the National Cherry Blossom Parade
in Washington, D.C.”
