Grade You Teach: 6th Grade Home Room, 6-8th grade Social Studies, 3rd and 6-8th grade P.E.

How long you’ve been at Concordia: This is my first year and I’m really looking forward to it.

Why did you choose to become a teacher? I have always had a passion for helping others, using technology, and learning about history. When I put all of these pieces together, I knew teaching was the direction I would work towards. I was also influenced by my 8th grade teacher at the Lutheran school I attended.

What attracted you to Concordia? The friendly atmosphere, the 53 years of history, and Christ-centered education.

Please tell us about your family: I grew up in a small town 70 minutes west of Chicago called Millbrook, Illinois. This is the town where much of my family lives (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins). My family owns a small business called “Winding Creek Nursery” which sells garden and plant supplies. My immediate family consists of my mother and father, Penny and Brian Monkemeyer and my sister, Alison Monkemeyer who is studying nursing at Olivet Nazarene University.

What hobbies and interests do you have outside of school? I enjoy biking, running, and playing any type of sport. I especially enjoy playing basketball. My favorite sports team is the Chicago Cubs. (Some people might consider me a ‘die-hard’ Cubs fan.) Using technology is another interest. I am very excited about having a SMART board in my room! I am a very social person, so I enjoy talking and spending time with others. I enjoy movies, especially from pre-1950’s such as “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Traveling is another passion I have. There are many places in the world I would love to see and explore. Finally, I enjoy learning about history. Any chance to learn about something new, I will take the opportunity!

Why would you recommend Concordia to families? My experience thus far has shown me that Concordia Lutheran has an unbelievable staff. They have experience and are willing to sacrifice time to help every student. First off, Concordia’s philosophy and focus for their students are centered around Christ. This needs to be the basis of anyone’s life. Secondly, the staff at Concordia is a tight-knit family willing to work together to help every child succeed!

Anything else you’d like to share: I am very excited to be a part of this school and am excited for Concordia’s future!
