Mrs. Ott (Joan)
Profile
Role at CLS: I fill a variety of roles at Concordia including serving as the Foreign Language Facilitator in our Rosetta Stone lab. I am also a kindergarten teacher's aide, work in the front office and coach girls track.
Why did you choose to work in education? After spending numerous years in the business world, I truly believe God intervened and chose me to become an educator. It was not a conscious decision on my part. In addition to my Business Marketing degree, I have also completed numerous elementary education classes.
Please share your beliefs about sending children to a Christian school. Having experienced a top-notch elementary education within the public school system, I didn't see the need to send my children to a private school. However, I attended Discover Concordia one year and by the end of the event, I had decided that the academics were as strong as the award-winning school I had attended. I always tell people that I came for the strong academics and I stay for the unbelievable faith and family feel the school provides.
Share an example of how you've made a difference in the life of a student. I guess you'd need to ask the students and parents about that, but I always do my best to continually encourage and uplift the students both in and out of the classroom.
Tell us about your family: I am married to a Concordia graduate, Bill Ott. We have two children, both of whom attend school at Concordia. And I can't forget to include our dog, Shadow. We keep busy with our children's activities — but when I have extra time I enjoy reading, exercising and having dinner with family and friends.
What makes Concordia unique? I believe the combination of strong academics, strong faith and a strong family feel makes Concordia unique.
