Concordia has been blessed with a new strings instructor set to start this fall. Our strings program, offered to grades K-8, has been growing steadily and we are excited to welcome Mr. Benjamin Henson! Below is a short message from him:
Music, teaching, and the faith have always been at the forefront of my life. I grew up in Southern Illinois where I started taking violin lessons at age 9. Soon I was playing in orchestras and loving every moment of it. In 2016, I received my Bachelor of Arts in music education from Luther College in Decorah, IA and went on to teach middle and high school orchestra in Iowa and Texas for four years. I have run a private lessons studio for over a decade and have served as strings instructor and orchestra conductor in multiple summer music camps.
In addition to my duties at Concordia Lutheran School, I serve as the pastor of Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Peoria. I graduated with my Master of Divinity and Master of Arts from St. Ignatius Lutheran Theological Seminary in Malone, TX and was ordained in July 2023. While in seminary, I worked as a private lessons instructor, piano tuner, and music teacher at a local Christian school.
My wife Christina and I have been married since 2016. Our daughter, Miriam, is three-years-old and we have another baby due at the beginning of January. Our hobbies include music, all sorts of outdoor activities (especially hiking), and board games.
