Physical Education

Mission Statement

Concordia Lutheran School provides families with a Christ-centered, academically challenging education to equip students for lifelong Christian discipleship and serves as a witness for Christ to our community and world.

CLASS ACTIVITIES

Working in concert with Mr. Monkemeyer, we teach graduated levels of fitness, teamwork activities, and fair play concepts while trying to instill lifetime appreciation for physical activities and the benefits they offer.  This is all done with Christian principles and our Concordia Mission Statement in mind during every class period.

MISSION STATEMENT

Students are all given the opportunity to demonstrate and show appreciation for the rich blessings that God provides them in the sense of what their bodies and minds can do, when working together, to live a healthy life and glorify Him in that process.

WHY YOU WANTED TO BECOME A TEACHER

My previous full-time work in Parks & Recreation has melded very nicely into the activity areas that physical education provides.  Since I myself attended a Lutheran grade school, and both our children attended Concordia here, this has been a very natural "fit" for me, and I'm thankful for the opportunity!

HOBBIES/INTERESTS
I'm a sports fanatic and an avid lover of American history.  Having coached intermittently for 50 years now, I truly treasure all of those experiences with so many children, and it continued this school year with fall soccer and now basketball.  Both Mrs. Mantick and I also love to travel, and look forward to wherever our next vacation may take us!

CLASS ACTIVITIES

8th grade United States History will research major events from the United States Civil War and create a game board that students play in class; 8th grade students create a Ken Burns-style documentary about the lead-up to the Civil War, 8th grade Physical Education students create their own games that our class will play, 7th grade Geography students make radio advertisements for tourism of Canada, 7th grade Geography students will create travel brochures for visiting an island in the Caribbean, 6th graders create models based off what they learned in ancient Egypt

MISSION STATEMENT

My mission as a Social Studies and Physical Education teacher, along with coach and athletic director is to teach Christ as our Savior. I have dedicated my life to God and to serving children he has placed in my care. I strive to educate children by showing love, working hard, and building relationships, so my students seek to be life-long learners.

WHY YOU WANTED TO BECOME A TEACHER

First, to have the opportunity to teach faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Second, I have a passion for helping children and teaching them how fantastic learning is! Third, I absolutely love history. It teaches us so much and. through it, can give us a guide into the future. Last, I enjoy incorporating technology into the classroom!

HOBBIES/INTERESTS

Chicago sports (especially the Cubs), learning about History, traveling to historic locations, eating pizza, and celebrating Christmas!
